UNHCR

Challenge: To tell an engaging story about the integration of young refugees, showing their reasons for leaving their country of origin and the challenges they are facing – for schoolchildren to empathise with and humanise newcomers.

Partner: UNHCR, the UN’s refugee agency, asked us to help with an original and creative empathetic piece of storytelling to serve their worldwide educational goals.

Approach: Good Point’s David Labi created the concept and wrote the story, and commissioned Syrian graphic artist Salam Alhassan in Berlin to produce the art. The collaboration’s result is THE SECRET POWER. A story about three young refugees in their adopted home embarking on a journey to the past to understand the magical strength that brought them to safety – and how that power can serve their new lives. A story of trauma and resilience, and a comic look at the secret powers that reside in all of us. The book is soon to be distributed worldwide in schools.
